OpenPress is committed to making this website accessible to everyone, regardless of disability, assistive technology, or browsing environment. We believe access to quality journalism is a right, not a privilege, and we work continuously to meet that standard.

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with disabilities, including those with visual, auditory, motor, cognitive, and speech impairments.

• All pages use semantic HTML5 landmarks so screen readers can navigate quickly between sections.
• Every interactive element — navigation, search, menus, forms, and buttons — is reachable and operable by keyboard alone.
• Images and icons include descriptive alternative text or are marked as decorative where appropriate.
• Colour contrast ratios meet or exceed the WCAG 2.1 AA minimum of 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text.
• Focus indicators are clearly visible on all interactive elements.
• Form fields are labelled programmatically so assistive technologies announce their purpose.
• The site does not use content that flashes more than three times per second.

While we strive for full accessibility, some areas are still being improved:

• Embedded third-party content (such as social media posts or external video players) may not fully meet our accessibility standards. We are working with providers where possible and offer text alternatives where we can.
• Some older archived articles may contain images without descriptive alt text. We are reviewing and updating these over time.

This site is designed to be compatible with the following assistive technologies:

• Screen readers: NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver (macOS and iOS), TalkBack (Android)
• Keyboard-only navigation
• Browser zoom up to 200% without loss of content or functionality
• High-contrast mode on Windows and macOS
