The basics
Whether you are chatting with a friend or a stranger, there is a real person on the other side. A little respect goes a long way.
Do
- Be kind, polite and open to different people.
- Respect it when someone wants to end a chat.
- Keep your personal details private.
- Report and block anything that feels wrong.
Don’t
- Bully, harass or threaten anyone.
- Pressure people to share photos or personal info.
- Spam, scam or advertise.
- Pretend to be someone else to trick people.
Protecting young people
Zero tolerance. Sexual content involving minors, or any attempt to groom, exploit or contact minors for sexual purposes, is strictly forbidden. We remove it, ban the people involved and report it to the authorities.
- Stranger Chat is for adults aged 18 and over only.
- If you are under 18, please do not use Stranger Chat.
- If you think someone is under 18 in Stranger Chat, leave the chat and report them.
What is not allowed
- Harassment and hate: bullying, threats, or attacks on people because of their race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability or similar.
- Sexual content: nudity, sexual messages or requests, and unwanted flirting after someone says no.
- Violence and self-harm: threatening violence, glorifying it, or encouraging someone to hurt themselves.
- Illegal activity: selling or promoting drugs, weapons, stolen goods, fraud or anything else against the law.
- Privacy violations: sharing someone’s private information, photos or conversations without consent, or asking for personal details.
- Spam and scams: mass messages, fake giveaways, links to suspicious sites and unwanted promotion.
- Impersonation: pretending to be another person, a public figure or an OpenPress team member.
- Misuse of the service: bots, scraping, hacking attempts or trying to avoid a ban.
Stories, glimpses and group chats
- Only post stories and glimpses you are comfortable with others seeing.
- Do not screenshot, save or share someone’s glimpse or story to embarrass or expose them.
- Do not add people to groups to harass them. Everyone can leave a group any time.
- Streaks are for fun. Please do not pressure anyone to keep one going.
Staying safe in Stranger Chat
Most people just want a friendly conversation, but you should always stay careful with people you do not know.
- Keep it private. Never share your full name, address, phone number, school, workplace, passwords or financial information.
- Do not click links from strangers or download files they send.
- Trust your instincts. If a chat feels uncomfortable, press Stop or Next. You never have to explain.
- Never send money or gift cards to someone you met online.
- Take it slowly before moving the conversation to another app, and never agree to meet a stranger in person.
Reporting and blocking
If someone breaks these guidelines, you can help us by reporting them. Use the report button (the flag icon) inside a chat, or contact us at support@openpress.tech.
- Report: tell us what happened so we can review it.
- Block: stop a person from contacting you again.
- Leave: you can always end a chat right away.
If you or someone else is in immediate danger, please contact your local emergency services first.
What happens when rules are broken
We look at what happened and how serious it was. Depending on the situation, we may:
- remove content or end a chat;
- give a warning;
- limit some features for a while;
- suspend or permanently ban an account or device;
- report serious cases to the appropriate authorities.
If you think we made a mistake, write to us at support@openpress.tech and we will take another look.
